| I've been working as an illustrator and painter for around 25 years. I've illustrated books, childrens books, magazines, newsletters, and probably many other things I've long forgotten. I enjoy both the commercial illustration field and fine arts. I also exhibit my work in various galleries and a few museums. I enjoy working traditionally using oils for most of my color work and pencil for my black & white work, although I've used and experimented with many mediums. I also do private commissions. I have a wide range of interests in subject matter. I can work large but I've also worked as a miniaturist, painting fairly small, very detailed oil paintings. My work is basically traditional but I do enjoy experimenting and I understand deadlines.
One wonderful experience I had early in my career - I was commissioned by a Washington DC organization to create a drawing which in turn was presented to Dr. Jane Goodall as an award for her work involving the conservation of Chimpanzees. The next year the same organization commissioned me to do a painting for the author Alice Walker.
