| I have been working in children's book illustration and pop-up design for over 30 years. I specialise in colourful picture books for young children and designing complicated pop-ups with a wow factor. Most of my books feature fun animal antics and are deigned to entertain.
My animals characters are lively and expressive and I want you to know exactly how they feel and what they may be thinking of getting up to next from the way they look. I went to art colleges at Birmingham and Exeter, England, and gained a first class honours degree in art and design for my figurative work and a distinction in art history. Later I did odd jobs while continuing to paint and had some fame for portraiture, later becoming a full time greetings card designer specializing in Santa Claus and fury animals. A chance meeting in an art shop introduced me to the world of illustration and paper engineering. I began by illustrating the pop-ups of Keith Moseley, one of the best ever 3D designers and he encouraged me to try my own. I illustrate and design for publishers all over the world but also have a series of fun comic cards and prints 'Country Comicals' which are inspired by my Yorkshire routes and childhood on a small farm. |
